Leaving a review
To review your house, visit our website and click 'register' in the top right. Input your details (don't worry, these aren't published), then find your property and write up the review. Once you've clicked save, you'll be sent a confirmation email to you university account, simply click on the verification link and set your account password. It's as easy as that!
Yes. Once you've submitted your review you'll be prompted to upload any photographs by selecting the files and clicking save.
If you search for your property and it doesn't come up, simply click 'Can't find your property?' to add it to our database.
No. We only permit reviews for your current term-time address.
You can leave one review every 6 months. Perfect timing for at the start of your tenancy and again before you leave.
We use the information you've provided to check your details against the University's student database, and by clicking your confirmation link in your email, you are verifying that you have an active student email account.
Not unless you still have access to your university email account. Unfortunately we cannot verify your student status without access to your emails, as many landlords already have details such as your name, student number, course etc, we cannot simply take these details as proof.
Yes. All that we publish is what you've written and the ratings for amenities, location, landlord, quality, value and state or repair. Please be mindful that although we won't publish your name, what you write in your review may be a good indication as to who you are.
For reviews left of properties that are registered to HullSTARS, the landlord will get a notification to say that someone has left a review or uploaded a photograph. They will not be made aware of whom that review comes from.
All reviews are moderated before being published; it may be that your review is in the moderation queue. If you haven't clicked the link in your confirmation email, your review will not be published until you do. It may be that your landlord has reported your review and it is awaiting an investigation, if this is the case we will be in touch with you in due course.
Yes, just click 'login' on the homepage, then the forgotten password link. You will be prompted from there.
Just visit the HullSTARS website, click 'login' and the reset your password link, this will resend you the confirmation email then allow you to set a password for your account.
Please email us at email@example.com with details and your university email address. It may be that someone has used your details to try fraudulently leave a review.
No. One of our main forms of verifications is by email and without it, it becomes difficult to verify that you are a current student and not just using someone else's details.
Landlords whose properties are registered to HullSTARS have the right to report any review they feel is misleading or unjust. Should we receive a complaint from a landlord, we will contact the author of the review to see if they would like to amend or delete their review, or if indeed they stick by their initial comments and want to leave the review as it is. Tenants who not respond to us within 14 days will have their reviews re-published without amendments. Landlord are able to report a review a maximum of 2 times. We will not disclose your details to the landlord.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines 'defamatory' as "The action of damaging the good reputation of someone; slander or libel". There is a possibility a landlord will want to take legal action against any defamatory reviews. If this happens, visit HUU's Advice Centre on the third floor of the Students' Union or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you see fit, please contact us at email@example.com to make any amendments to your review.
Threatening behaviour is not acceptable under any circumstances. If you feel it's appropriate, you can contact the Police either on 999 (emergencies only) or 101 (non-emergencies), or after the event, please visit HUU's Advice Centre on the third floor of the Students' Union or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are concerned about the content of your review, please contact us at email@example.com to make any amendments or to delete to your review. Please remember that your honest reviews help future students to avoid any potential issues you may have faced.
