What can HullSTARS do for me?
As HullSTARS is in its first year, unfortunately there will be no historic feedback for you to check any prospective properties that you are interested in. However, you can give feedback on your current accommodation, which will then help any future prospective tenants. If we were to all give feedback this year, then everyone would have the information next year to make an informed choice!
You have told me that my registered address is incorrect.
If you submit feedback and it does not match the data we hold on file for you, we will let you know. If your address is incorrect you need to inform the University who will then update it, if you urgently want to give feedback, we will need to see proof of address in the form of a signed tenancy agreement, alongside your student ID, contact us for assistance.
What is the difference between a feedback score and an audit score?
The feedback score is the average score of all feedback given on a property whereas the audit score comes about from an inspection of the property.
Why can’t I leave feedback on a property I have previously rented?
If this is not your current registered term-time address then we cannot allow you to give feedback. If you can provide us with a signed tenancy agreement, alongside your student ID we can amend your access for a short period to allow you to give feedback on that property, contact us for assistance.
Our moderation rules can be found here.
Why can’t I find my property?
There will be some rare instances where your property might not be on our database. This generally occurs when the data we have received is not in the correct format. You can submit and rate a property that isn’t in our database. Click here to rate and review a property not yet on our database.
Are my comments anonymous?
Whilst your comments are anonymous on the website, if you are a current tenant please bear in mind that your landlord will know who you are, though he shouldn’t be able to match the complaint to you unless you put any information that can help them to identify you.
We recommend that if you have a complaint about your landlord that the website is not used as a platform for this, as it will be moderated and will not be displayed. For any Housing Problems contact the HUU Advice Centre on the third floor of University House who will be able to offer you free impartial advice.
I’ve heard about ‘The Scheme’, is this the same thing?
No, The Scheme was an accreditation system where the decisions made were more in the interest of the landlords than the tenants (for example prioritising advertising). The Scheme also only accredited 10% (with a minimum of 1) of any landlords properties each year and these properties were randomly selected. That meant that a landlord with a large number of properties could advertise a property as accredited accommodation even if it had not been inspected. HullSTARS is about grading all properties fairly with more of a focus on the property itself rather than the landlord, the feedback element of the system then allows you to combine the rating of the property with any specific feedback on the landlord.
