We are proud to announce the winners of our HullSTARS Awards 2017/18!

We’re celebrating the hard work and efforts of landlords across the city who provide the very best quality student housing. These awards highlight those who go above and beyond to deliver the best possible experience for their tenants.


The HullSTARS Awards are open to all of our pro-active landlords who are working hard to improve the standard of accommodation for students at the University of Hull. Each year the winners will be announced and will be awarded certification to celebrate their achievement. The winners were presented with their awards at the HullSTARS Housing Fair in November.

This has been another incredibly tough year with some fantastic submissions. Winners have been chosen by our HullSTARS Team, HUU staff and our Welfare and Community Officer, Jennie Watts based on a set criteria and landlord submissions.



Best Small Landlord of the Year - PD Student Properties

PD Student Properties offer exceptional student housing at affordable prices. With 8 properties registered to HullSTARS, all of which have achieved a 5* rating, PD Student Properties are a shining example of what a good landlord should be. PD Student Properties have worked with HullSTARS since its creation in 2013, continuously striving to provide excellent quality properties to the students of Hull, whilst also providing a great service and supporting the HUU No Rush campaign. Not only do PD Student Properties work hard for their tenants, they have also helped with HullSTARS community clear up days, benefiting not only the students in the area, but the local residents too. With great audit results and reviews to match, it’s no wonder PD Student Properties are this years winners of the HullSTARS Best Small Landlord of the Year Award 2017/18.


Best Landlord or Managing Agent of the Year – Kexgill

Holding onto their title for the third consecutive year is Kexgill! Kexgill are working hard to improve the quality of student accommodation in Hull, recently demonstrated in their renovations of properties on Auckland and Cranbrook Avenue. Kexgill are all about providing quality accommodation, but ensure that they maintain a great level of customer service as demonstrated by their amazing property reviews from students. Supporting HUU’s No Rush/No Pressure campaigns comes naturally to Kexgill, who recognise that signing early for a house can cause no end of problems so do their best to ensure that students have a stress free, un-rushed house hunting experience. Being so proactive to ensure that students get the best, there is no wonder that Kexgill have managed to secure the win for the Best Landlord or Managing Agent of the Year again, well done!


Accommodation of the Year - 7 Beech Grove – GI Developments

Stealing back the title, 7 Beech Grove is a worthy winner of this year’s Accommodation of the Year Award. GI Developments flagship property stands proudly at the bottom of Beech Grove with its impressive castle-like appearance and luxury ensuite offering. With a secure back garden leading straight to the beer garden of the Gardeners Arms, the property has a great location, a stone’s throw from supermarkets, takeaways and pubs. The property boasts tumble dryers, dishwashers, lightspeed-wifi connection, off road parking and a built in BBQ in the back garden. This stunning 5* rated property oozes luxury and is a very worthy winner of the Accommodation of the Year Award 2017/18.


Best Quality Award - Hulliday Villas

Hulliday Villas offer brilliant quality in all of their student properties, putting their 25 years experience to good use to in re-designing their properties with students needs and wants put first. Hulliday Villas offer accommodation provided with great quality furnishings and fittings, AAA rated appliances, modern kitchens and spacious bathrooms. With five 5* properties, and fantastic property reviews to boot, Hulliday Villas are our very worthy winners of this years Best Quality Award 2017/18.


Green Impact Award - Falcon Properties

Falcon Properties have gone to great lengths to reduce their carbon footprint and are taking home the Green Impact Award for the second year running. To make their properties more energy efficient, they have installed high efficiency boilers, solar panels, under floor heating and even lowered the ceilings. Falcon Properties go even further and provide thermal blackout blinds and curtains too! These steps certainly made a difference, and have reduced heating bills by ‘40%’. Last year their tenants received money back on their bills, a first! Falcon encourage their tenants to ‘go green’ and consider using alternative methods of transport other than cars and buses by providing secure bicycle storage; they also provide app controlled heating appliances. Falcon Properties are an excellent example of how we can work together to improve our carbon footprint, and how easy it can be when you are given the correct tools for the job.


Safer Hull Award – Unicom

Unicom have a great working relationship with Humberside Police and try to ensure that their tenants live in a secure community. Unicom recognise that opportunistic theft is a real problem and that most of it is preventable, and advise their tenants accordingly in their welcome packs when students move into their accommodation. Their comprehensive welcome packs include information on keeping their property safe, what to do when they move out or go home for the holidays and also encourage their tenants to register their possessions for free on immobilise.com to ensure that if the worst happens, they have the best possible change to get their belongings back. Well done Unicom, and thank you for taking student safety seriously.


Student Satisfaction Award - Fairdeal Lets

Winning this year’s Student Satisfaction Award is Fairdeal Lets who pride themselves in providing good quality, well maintained, and comfortable properties.
